Secession Cowl

This week, we are delighted to be highlighting a wonderful new pattern by Kristina Vilimaite that uses our Uptown Sock called Secession Cowl.  This clever design has an asymmetrical shape that sits over the shoulders just like a shawl.  The Secession Cowl uses two skeins of Uptown Sock; the featured pattern was knit in the colourway Arabian Nights.  We have Uptown Sock available in this week's update; to read more about the design and to get your own copy, head over to Ravelry!

This week, we were swamped with emails and PMs requesting assistance for putting together five colour combinations for Joji's Mystery Wrap KAL.  So, we decided that maybe it would be a good idea to just put a few kits together of colourways that we know will knit up beautifully.

We are very excited to be introducing a new yarn to our Skein family this week!  Meet Everyday Sock, a lofty 2ply yarn that is super soft and squishy.  Spun with a blend of 80% extra-fine Merino and 20% Nylon, this yarn is perfect for all projects. Each skein has 400 metres / 437 yards in 100g and is very nicely priced at $27 AUD (around $20 USD).  Everyday Sock is debuting in our update this Friday!

This week we also have a ton of Top Draw Sock in plenty of bright, fun colours including the four shown above: Atomic Apricot, Namaste, Flight Of Fancy and Speckled Mint.

Sweater Yarn and New Colourways

This week's sweater yarn base is Bliss, our 100% extra-fine merino DK.  This yarn has been chain plied, meaning that it holds up nicely to wear and tear and is less likely to pill.  The extra-fine merino makes this yarn so soft (it feels like cashmere!), making it a pleasure to knit and wear.  This week, we have introduced three new colourways dyed onto our Bliss base: Jarrah,Tundra (both seen above), and a new speckle called Delight...

...all of which are available in the shop this Friday 14th April at 9am AEST.

Oh, and don't forget the Sweater KAL happening right now over on our Ravelry group!  The KAL runs until August 31st, so you've got plenty of time to select your yarn and pattern and knit along with us!  There's already lots of chatter, so please come on over and join us.

We have a bumper update this week that includes our newest base 1 ply Lace (seen above in the Whisper colourway), as well as MCN Sock, Merino Silk Sport and Shimmer!

Firstly lets talk new colourways!  This week we added a luscious new purple called Autumn Plum.

This is a rich tonal colourway that has various shades of plum purple.  This week we have dyed Autumn plum onto our 1ply Lace. 

We have also decided to bring back an old colourway called Lemongrass.

This colourway is a randomly dyed variegated colour: it will knit up in tones of rich pistachio and apple green with splashes of lemon and amber. Lemongrass would look wonderful paired with a warm neutral or purple, and of course it would look amazing on its own!  Dyed onto our sparkle base, Lemongrass just glistens!

Apart from the new colourways, we have plenty of all the popular colours ready and waiting!  We've had lots of requests for Dandelion, In the Navy, Moonlight Drive and Spice Market, all of which are in store.  And, don't forget, if you are after a certain colour please let us know!

Sweater Yarns!

This week's sweater yarn is Merino Silk Sport. This is a great transitional yarn for those in between seasons.  If you're wanting to knit a light cardigan, pullover or short sleeve top then this is your yarn!  The silk and merino blend produces a beautifully soft and drapey fabric which is very lovely to knit. Anyone who has knit with this yarn will tell you how amazing it is!  We have a ton of colours all dyed in sweater quantities for this week's update.

Sweater KAL

We are hosting a sweater KAL over on our Ravelry group!  It is on right now and goes through to August 31, giving you plenty of time to organise your yarn, find a pattern and knit along with us!  Any garment you want to knit is fine, whether it's a pullover, cardigan or short-sleeve tank just as long as you use mostly Skein yarn.  We do have a prize of a sweater's worth of yarn in the winner's choice of base and colour up for grabs to all who complete their garment within the time frame.  We would also love to see everyone's WIPs and FO, so please tag your pics with #skeinsweaterkal .  Come on over to the group and join in the fun.

This week we have been dyeing up a ton of sock-weight yarns perfect for shawls and, of course, socks!  Our bases this week include the very sophisticated Classy (seen above in the colourway Wishing Well), which is a gorgeous mix of merino and silk.  This yarn has a beautiful drape and feels so nice against the skin: we highly recommended it for shawls or cowls. 

Our second offering is Uptown Sock, our soft single-ply yarn which again is perfect for shawls and cowls. Have fun mixing colours and using this yarn in stripy shawls and colourwork projects.  We recommend mixing Dandelion and In The Navy or Spice Market and Metropolis; they look fabulous together (see below)!

PLUS we have literally a gazillion skeins of Minis (mini Top Draw skeins) which work perfectly as contrasting heels and toes for socks, or fun additions to those beautiful stripped crochet blankets.

Sweater Knitters

As mentioned last week, we will be topping up the shop each week with sweater quantities of sweater-weight yarns.  This week, we have Winter which is our super-soft worsted SW Merino base.  We've dyed up a selection of semi-solid colours (like Slate, seen below) as well as tonal and lightly variegated colours (like The Outback, see below)  for those who like a bit more colour variation.

This week it's all about rich, saturated colour!  We have been dyeing up a storm of bright and bold colours on Top Draw Sock and Merino Cashmere.  These include all of our new release colourways: Speckled Mint (see above), Cosmic Dust, Moonlight Drive, Spice Market and another new colour, Dandelion.

If you're a yarn club member, you might recognise the name?  Dandelion features a similar colour with a few minor adjustments to the way the dye has been applied.  It has lots of rust, yellow and navy speckles and it pairs beautifully with our semi-solid In The Navy.

Speaking of colour combinations, this week we put a few combos together using our in-stock and upcoming sock yarns in order for you to see what they look like as a trio.  These won't be sold as kits, so you'll need to buy each skein separately, but it'll give you a good idea as to how they look together.  Here they are!

After lots of emails pleading us to offer more sweater-weight yarns, we have finally decided to make these weights available in EVERY update.  These yarns will of course be dyed in sweater quantities so you can grab all your yarn from the same dye lot in one single swoop.  This week we have our Voyage DK on offer in a variety of colours.  If you're a sweater knitter and have a hankering for a certain yarn or colourway, please let us know over on our Ravelry Wish List thread.  We always try to fulfill all wishes :)

This week, we have quite a variety of yarn weights ready to be added to the shop!  Firstly, we have our ultra soft Winter which is a wonderful worsted weight.  We've dyed up a whole heap of this base for all who are interested in buying sweater quantities of yarn!  We also made sure to have a nice selection of speckled, semi-solid and tonal colourways for you as well.

Secondly, we have our super Uptown Sock base also in a huge array of colours, including two new ones!  Please meet our new colours Speckled Mint and Glee:

Speckled Mint is a pale mint with speckles of light blue, bright yellow, purple and black - it's a nice fresh spring colour that really pops!  Glee, on the other hand, is a very pale purple-toned pink that has almost a silvery appearance which is really pretty.  These and plenty more colours will be available this Friday in the shop!

Finally, we are super pleased to be introducing a new laceweight yarn to our shop! 

1ply Lace is just that, a single ply 100% superwash merino that knits up to produce a gorgeously light and airy fabric that is perfect for any lace project.  It's 870 yards / 795 meters in 100g and retails for $30.  If you are into lace yarn, then you need to try this!  We have 7 colourways available this week with more on offer soon!  We hope you like it as much as we do :)

Spring To It Cowl

As an accompaniment to the yarns offered in this week's update, we've released two free patterns!  The first (pictured above) is called the Spring To It Cowl which is a fun little cowl that is perfect for spring!  The cowl showcases a mix of stripes and lace in two contrasting colours of MCN Sock, which is fun to knit and perfect for adding some colour to your spring wardrobe. 

We used the colourways Citrine and Ice On A Windowpane, which we think is a perfect spring combo. Other spring-inspired combinations are:

From top left; Citrine and Ice On A Windowpane, Rum Raisin and Paw Paw, Pollen and Sterling, Ambrosia and Eventide, Seaborne and Artiste.

Pronto Cowl

The second pattern is called the Pronto Cowl which is a super chunky cowl that is very quick and easy to knit!  The textured stitch pattern gives the cowl a modern look and is also fun to knit.   Perfect for winter, this cowl will keep your neck super cozy and will look fabulous under any winter coat. 

The Pronto Cowl requires two skeins of our super squishy yarn Pronto.  For this week's update we have put together a mix of ten colourwys for you to choose from!

This week, we are delighted to be sharing our newest design with you. The Colour Melt Shawl is a simple, garter-stitch triangular shawl that lets you play with colour!  By alternating between one and then two yarns, which are held together at the same time, a colour-melt effect occurs.  It's fascinating to see what colour effects you get!  

The shawl is lovely and big which is perfect for wrapping yourself up in!  There is also a simple lace border with picot bind off that adds a nice feminine touch.

The Colour Melt shawl requires three full skeins of Top Draw Sock; the more contrast the better!  All you need to do is select three of your favourite contrasting yarns and watch what happens when they melt together.  We have of course put a few colour combinations together that we think would look fabulous:

• Make Hay While the Sun Shines, Wasabi and China Town (used for sample design)
• Techno, Pollen and Graphite
• Ghost, Eventide and Night Owl
• Myrtle Creek, Industrial Age and Time Is On My Side

• Classy - our beautiful single-ply merino/silk blend
