Warm, cosy and made for layering, Gartigan is a substantial garter-stitch cardigan designed to be worn almost like a knitted jacket.
Two strands of Cushy DK are held together throughout, creating a beautifully dense and insulating fabric, while the deep raglan shaping leaves plenty of room for layers underneath. The generous shawl collar adds even more warmth around the neck, making Gartigan the kind of cardigan you’ll reach for on cold mornings, winter walks and slow days at home.
Choose one colour for a classic finish, or hold two different colourways together to create a softly marled fabric.
Gartigan is worked seamlessly from the top down with raglan shaping.
The sleeves are knitted straight to the cuffs, where a single decrease row creates their softly gathered, balloon-style shape. The shawl collar is shaped using German short rows, forming a warm double layer around the neck.
The cardigan is designed to be worn with approximately 0–2 inches / 0–5 cm of positive ease at the bust. The deep raglan yoke provides additional room through the underarm, making Gartigan especially comfortable over layered pieces.
An optional afterthought button closure is included in the pattern. The cardigan may also be worn open or fastened with a shawl pin.
