A month of making with our scraps
Grab your scraps and let’s begin
A basket of leftovers, a few favourite colours, and the possibility of something lovely.
This October, we’re gathering the yarn we already have and seeing what it can become. We’d love you to join us.
All scrappy projects are welcome—knitted or crocheted, big or small. A blanket, a striped sweater, a colourful shawl, or something entirely your own.
There’s no set schedule and no need to finish in October. Start whenever you like and make at your own pace.
How to join in
- Gather your scraps. Pull out your leftovers, odd skeins and treasured little balls of yarn. Start with what you have.
- Choose something you’d love to make. Join our Log Cabin Blanket Along or pick a scrappy project of your own. All knitting and crochet projects are welcome.
- Share your making. We’d love to see your colours, works in progress and finished projects. On Instagram, tag @skeinyarn and use #SkeinScraptober so we can find you. For blankets, you can also add #SkeinScrappyBlanket.
- Send us a photo. You can also reply to one of our emails. Tell us a little about what you’re making, and let us know whether you’re happy for us to share your photos on our Instagram, with credit to you.
We’d love to feature your scrappy projects along the way. We’ll always ask permission before sharing—tagging us doesn’t automatically give permission.

On Kristen’s needles
I’m starting my second Log Cabin Blanket, this time with lots of neutrals and little pops of orange and peach—and probably a few greens finding their way in too.
I’m also planning a scrappy version of my Cruiser Cardigan, using leftovers to bring a little colour play to a favourite wardrobe piece.
I’ll share both projects as they grow: the colours I choose, the combinations that surprise me, and how those little scraps find their place.
Whether you’re making a blanket, a cardigan or something entirely different, I’d love some company.
