Pattern: Classic Smocking Cardigan by PetiteKnit

Yarn: Skein Voyage DK in the Eden colourway (6 skeins)

Needles: 4 mm / US 6 and 4.5 mm / US 7

Size knit: Medium

This was a surprisingly quick knit.  After working with sock-weight yarns over the last few months, I had forgotten how quickly this weight of yarn knit up. Having cast off, I immediately started a new DK cardigan project that I have already finished; more on that soon!

Anyhow, back to this lovely cardigan.  I found the pattern very easy to follow and the textured smocking stitch was quick to memorise and fast to knit.  There are no charts for the stitch pattern. Even though I do prefer charts, I didn't find this to be a problem.  The cardigan was designed to be knit top down with raglan increases.  The pattern doesn't hold your hand when it comes to changing the stitch pattern to accompany the raglan increases.  In saying that, I didn't find this hard to do, but if you are newish to knitting it may be something that could stump you.

I knit this cardigan exactly as written; however, I did lengthen the sleeves by 2 inches because I love them extra long.  I also worked out my own button-hole placements as I only had 5 buttons (which I found in my collection and they perfectly matched the yarn - win!).

Overall, I love this cardigan.  It has a very classic style that means it won't go out of fashion.  You could really modernise this cardigan by using a lightly speckled yarn in a fun colour, or choose a bright semi solid (we do now offer Voyage DK as dyed-to-order, so if you're looking for yarn check ours out here.).

Highly recommended!
